The
harmonious scenery of the Langhe and Montferrato
hills. A sweeping roll of sloping heights that undulate
there way placidly across the landscape to caress the horizon,
vineyards that give way to hazel groves, to orchards, to
woods and thickets in a ceaseless composition of shadows,
shades, shimmers and movement.
The harmonious quality of the fertile landscape is enlivened
by the patient work of man who has through his tenacity
driven cultivation up the most impervious hilly slopes in
search of the ideal position for his vineyards.
Land, climate, and steep locations have made it possible
to develop and cultivate vines and achieve the extraordinary
quality of the wines they produce. These fertile terrains,
marly-clay and marly-sandy have offered ideal conditions
for the spontaneous growth of the highly prized Magnatum
Pico truffle.
Harvesting this "forbidden fruit" has something of the mysterious
about it: it is carried out at night, far from indiscrete
eyes, when expert searchers, the "Trifolau" (in Piedmont
dialect), with their dogs, lovingly trained, combing through
the valleys, the woodland areas, full of trufflegenic trees
and digging up these pearls of intense perfume.
The fascination is such that it cannot be entirely encapsulated
in the poetry of its natural environment: it is also history,
the memory of civilizations and human traditions. Medieval
remains, castles and impregnable towers narrating the multi-century
history of a past that is often evoked in events and traditions
that are passionately continued to this day.
The fascination of these locations is not easy to describe:
it is made up of a harmonious blend of landscapes, traditions,
sensations, odours Nothing remains therefore but to invite
you to come along and discover its treasures for yourselves.
